Behind the thin layer, that separates the fire.

The village was of course inspired by the Chinese culture (China). Lantern character based of Sky Lantern, invented by Zhuge Liang during the war as a warning sign (That’s what the first statement on the site meant).

It was rather interesting how culture changes overtime, the symbol changed despite being the same object.

The what seemed to be a bizarre culture of the eldest children leaving the family, was actually inspired by the Chinese immigrant that move out of China during the war. Mostly to South East Asia, Nanyang. It is a Chinese culture that the eldest child to take responsibility, one that needs a lot of resolve and courage.

Then reached the other village, based of Cairo. The origin of Ramadan Lantern which culture spread to countries like Malaysia and Singapore during the Ramadan Festival. Its light that illuminate are shaped by the cover around the fire.

I took the representation of lights that shine in every angle (Sky Lantern) and lights that shine in a fixed direction (Ramadan Lantern); to show that the Sky Lantern which initially unaware of where to go later knows the path as the light guild her in a straight line.
